Maureen FitzSimons, better known as Maureen O'Hara in America, was an exceptional child. These traits were natural for a child born in Ireland, surrounded by gifted parents as well as a loving and supportive family. Fitzsimons Margot Fitzsimons James O'Hara made up this family. Maureen was a star athlete and was a lover of rough play. Her talent for performing perfectly complemented her interest in sport. The fact that she was awarded nearly all Feis awards for her native country's drama and theatre performances proved this. Her acceptance at the Abbey Theater by age 14, and she pursued her dreams of operatic as well as classical theater and singing.
